What Palworld 1.0 changed

Palworld 1.0 arrived on 10 July 2026 and it is not a tidy up release. It added two headline regions, 72 Pals, two new progression systems, rebuilt every tower boss and rebalanced work suitability across the entire roster. That last group is why so much Palworld guidance you will find is now quietly wrong, and this page collects what actually moved.

The headline additions

  • Sunreach, a set of islands floating above Palpagos held up by Paldium, and the World Tree, where the story concludes.
  • Seven more small islands across volcano, desert and ruins biomes, new settlements at the Bamboo Groves, the Snowy Mountains, Sakurajima and Sunreach, and enemy bases out at sea.
  • Ancient Ruins and Watchtowers scattered across the world. A Watchtower reveals the surrounding map and becomes a fast travel point, which also means a technology point.
  • The three Wildlife Sanctuaries were reworked from small islands into protected conservation areas patrolled by defense drones with searchlights.
  • 72 new Pals, made up of 47 new species and 25 variants, taking Pocketpair's official total to 287.

Why you will see 299 rather than 287. The extracted game data holds 299 breedable entries. The difference is not a contradiction: eleven of them are Terraria collaboration Pals numbered outside the normal Paldeck, and one Paldeck slot holds two forms sharing a name. Same roster, counted differently.

Two new progression systems

Both of these are new in 1.0 and neither existed in any pre release guide.

  • Awakening strengthens Pals using Radiant Gems found in the World Tree, so it is endgame facing by design.
  • Mutation is a breeding mechanic. There is a low chance an egg produces a Pal stronger than the normal result for that pairing, with higher stats and a unique passive skill.

Mutation does not make breeding random. Which species you get from a pairing is still fixed and predictable. Mutation affects how strong the individual that hatches is, not what it is. So a breeding calculator still tells you the species with certainty.

Changes that make old guides wrong

This is the group worth reading carefully, because each one invalidates advice that is still being republished.

What changedWhy it matters
Work suitability expanded from 4 levels to 10, every Pal rebalancedEvery best worker list written before July 2026 is based on superseded numbers.
Capture bonus completes at 5 captures, down from 12The ubiquitous advice to catch ten of each species matched neither the old value nor the new one.
Player level cap 65 to 80More status and technology points than older planning guides assume.
Tower fight timer 10 minutes to 5, arenas rebuilt, some boss skills newStrategies built on outlasting a boss no longer fit, and positioning from older videos may not transfer.
Two more tower bosses, taking the total from 7 to 9Any list of towers with seven entries is incomplete.
Partner skills reworked for over 200 Pals, and they no longer stack for duplicates of the same PalTeam compositions that relied on stacking the same partner skill do not work.
Maximum condense rank now costs 48 Pals instead of 116Ranking a Pal up is a realistic plan now rather than a grind most players skip.
Repair Kit removed; Handiwork Pals repair without an itemBase upkeep advice about stockpiling kits is obsolete.
Jump allowed while over carry weight, up to 1.25x, penalties reducedSlightly weakens the case for pouring every status point into Weight. The wiki still says jumping is disabled.
Base level cap 30 to 35More base progression, though the working Pal cap still stops rising at level 30.

There is also a knock on effect that catches people out. Adding 72 Pals shifted the crowded middle of the hidden breeding value table, so pairs that used to produce one species can now produce a different one. The seven tower boss pairings that guides still circulate no longer work at all.

Where the release actually stands

Version 1.0 shipped on 10 July 2026 and the only patch since has been v1.0.1 on 15 July 2026, a small bug fix release addressing save data being discarded after certain operations, a burning status that kept ticking after touching a campfire, a repeated save error on PlayStation and a freeze after fast travelling on Xbox. It changed nothing about bases, Pal labour or catching.

One thing to be careful about: the level cap is reported as 80 by most outlets, and at least one published a headline saying 85. The changelog itself supports 80, which is what this site uses, but the disagreement exists and is worth knowing about if you see the other figure.

Frequently asked questions

When did Palworld 1.0 release?

10 July 2026, taking the game out of early access on Steam, PS5, Xbox and Game Pass at the same time. Patch v1.0.1 followed on 15 July 2026 with two bug fixes.

How many Pals are in Palworld 1.0?

Pocketpair's official total is 287, after adding 72 in the release, made up of 47 new species and 25 variants. Extracted game data holds 299 entries, the difference being 11 Terraria collaboration Pals numbered outside the normal Paldeck plus one Paldeck slot holding two forms.

What is Mutation in Palworld?

A new 1.0 breeding mechanic that gives a low chance of an egg producing a Pal stronger than the normal result for that pairing, with higher stats and a unique passive skill. It does not change which species you get, only how strong the individual is.

Did Palworld 1.0 change breeding results?

Indirectly, yes. Adding 72 Pals shifted the hidden breeding value table, so some pairs now produce a different species than before. Most visibly, the seven tower boss breeding pairings that guides still list no longer work at all.

What is the level cap in Palworld 1.0?

Eighty, raised from sixty five. Note that at least one outlet published eighty five; the official changelog supports eighty.
