Is WoW Forever a new game, a season or Classic+?
Blizzard describes Forever as a new permanent home alongside modern and Classic WoW, and says outright that it is not a mode, a season, or a new version of Classic. It is the third branch of World of Warcraft next to the modern game and WoW Classic. Players call it Classic+ because it keeps Classic's rules and world and adds new content on top.
The story is set after Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and before Molten Core, in what Blizzard calls the early Year 1 period of Azeroth. Forever sits in its own time bubble, so new zones, characters and conflicts can be added without rewriting the original timeline.
It grew out of WoW Classic and Season of Discovery, but is deliberately more conservative than SoD. In an interview summarised by Wowhead, the developers said class changes fill gaps while preserving each class's original specialties, and that Forever starts with pre-Season of Discovery content.
When does WoW Forever come out and what does it cost?
Forever launches globally on November 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST. The beta runs from September 17 through October 21, 2026. Access to the game is included with a World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time; there is no separate purchase for the game itself. The release date guide has the full timeline, edition contents and time zones.
One thing is paid: the Skyborne race and its Zephras Isle starting zone require the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher edition. Wowhead lists the Heroic Pack at $29.99 on the Battle.net Shop.

What are the design pillars?
Blizzard names four pillars: approachable and familiar, the world as the main character, the journey before the destination, and protecting the social experiences that make Azeroth feel alive. Every addition is measured against the feel of the original game.
In practice that means no flying mounts, no level scaling, and a continued focus on challenge, preparation, communication and cooperation. Leveling stays as important as the endgame, and rewards come from playing: leveling up, running dungeons, exploring and taking on challenges with other people.
Combat keeps the pace of Classic. A solo player can expect an ordinary creature to take roughly 10 to 15 seconds to kill, dungeons stay tactical, and crowd control such as Polymorph, Banish, Fear and Root remains the right answer when a tank cannot hold everything at once.
What is new in the world?

Four new regions are woven into the level 1 to 60 journey: Mount Hyjal (a level 60 zone in the aftermath of Archimonde's defeat), Shen'dralas (a hidden area between Mulgore and Desolace tied to Eldre'Thalas and Dire Maul), the Riverglades (a frontier of rivers and trade routes for the mid-30s to mid-40s, with more than 150 new quests) and Zephras Isle (the level 1 to 12 Skyborne starting zone). The zones, dungeons and raids guide covers each one.
Nine new dungeons open at launch, from the Hall of Thanes beneath Ironforge to the Shaper's Terrace. Two new raids, the 10-player Barrow Deeps and the 20-player Hyjal Summit, open on December 9, 2026. For PvP, the Darkspear Islands introduce a 15 vs 15 battleground off the coast of Kalimdor.
Travel changes too. Three new ship routes connect the continents earlier and more flexibly, including a Steamwheedle route from Tanaris to Powderfuse Port in the Riverglades. Familiar zones such as the Wetlands and Desolace gain new quests, and every starting area gets new NPCs, quests and profession hooks.
Visually, Forever offers modern and Classic presets, high-definition and standard-definition character models, restored Classic animations for the HD models, and official gamepad support. Improved lighting and upgraded environments apply across the old world as well as the new zones.
What new systems does WoW Forever add?
The Legacy system
Legacy is an account-wide progression track built for people who level alts. You earn Legacy Points by completing Legacy Challenges (for example leveling a specific class or reaching a skill milestone) and spend them in three Legacy Trees: Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness.
Points are shared across all your characters, but each character spends them separately. At launch a character can spend up to 16 points, and up to 65 points can be earned in total at the start. Points beyond the spending cap feed a Legacy Reward Track of cosmetic and prestige rewards such as the Spectral Bear Cub.
Camping

Camping turns the Cooking Fire into a Basic Campfire that creates a campsite where players rest, get access to vendors, repairs and profession workspaces, and gain one-hour buffs after sitting for a few moments. Nearby players can add up to three crafted objects, one each, and every profession has three objects learned at different skill levels.
The first objects are learned once a profession reaches skill 20. More advanced objects come from Blueprint recipes that drop from dungeon bosses, and Cooks can learn upgraded campfires that hold five or ten objects. Blacksmiths place a Sharpening Wheel (Attack Power), Tailors a Faction Banner (Spirit) and Herbalists an Incense Candle (Intellect); these do not stack with the class buffs they mirror.
Professions
Professions gain more than 600 new recipes across level ranges. Crafted food now grants a small experience bonus as well as stat boosts, and advanced Blueprint recipes drop from dungeon bosses.
Realmless rulesets
There is no realm list. Instead you choose a ruleset: Normal, PvP, Roleplaying, or Hardcore once it arrives after launch. Each ruleset is one large ecosystem, cross-ruleset grouping is not supported, and Horde and Alliance still cannot group together. Characters use two-part names that are unique per region, and you can set a language preference to meet players who share it.
Optional transmog
Transmogrification exists, but it is opt-in. You configure outfits at a transmogrifier in certain cities, or disable the system entirely so you only ever see other players in their real gear. Choosing Classic Mode at first launch disables transmog automatically. The list of what is not in WoW Forever has the details.
Mounts
Forever adopts the Burning Crusade-style mount cost: the up-front price moves into riding training, and you receive a mount when you learn the riding skill.
What changes for classes, races and items?
Every class and specialization is being revised, with the goal of covering gaps without erasing what makes each class distinct. Talent trees keep their structure and row count, with one point milestone talents at 11, 21 and 31 points and a new milestone at 16. Talents that granted key buffs, such as Divine Spirit, Blessing of Kings and Improved Mark of the Wild, are now baseline.

| Race | New class | Faction |
|---|---|---|
| Human | Hunter | Alliance |
| Dwarf | Shaman | Alliance |
| Gnome | Priest | Alliance |
| Orc | Mage | Horde |
| Troll | Warlock | Horde |
| Undead | Paladin | Horde |
Blizzard says more combinations are planned for future updates. Racial abilities have been reworked so that every race has two active and two passive abilities with a similar amount of offensive power. Dwarves' Stoneform now reduces Physical damage taken instead of raising Armor, and Undead Cannibalize restores Mana as well as Health.
Itemization keeps Classic's stats but reworks several. Spell, melee and ranged hit chance are combined, as are the three critical strike chances; weapon skill items grant less skill per item; and bonus healing now includes one third as much bonus damage. Every dungeon drop has been reexamined, unique dungeon boss items are now blue quality, and hundreds of new drops have been added.
How does WoW Forever compare to WoW Classic and Season of Discovery?
Classic Era preserves the original game as it was; Forever keeps that foundation and builds on it permanently. Season of Discovery was a season with an end; Forever is not a season, and Blizzard calls it a promise to keep building this world with the community.
The Legacy system was inspired by how much leveling happens in Hardcore, and Forever's PvP faction balance tools follow the approach introduced in Season of Discovery. The developers told But Why Tho? that SoD pushed additions about as far as they could go, and that Forever takes a more conservative line while still changing classes.
