Five questions to ask any alt tool
- Does it show every character at once, or one you search for? The Armory and Raider.IO are lookups; an alt manager is a list.
- Does it work with the game closed? Addons do not. The moments you plan the week are mostly those.
- Where does the data come from? Blizzard's API is the same for every app; a tool that asks you to type is only as current as your last entry.
- What does it need from you? A read only Blizzard login is the least; a password is too much. VaultAlts uses Blizzard's own login page and a token you can revoke at account.battle.net.
- What does it admit it cannot see? Every API tool is blind to vault items, gold, bags and the Auction House. One that claims otherwise is not reading the API.
Where VaultAlts is the answer, and where it is not

What is the best tool to manage WoW alts?
It depends on where you are. At the keyboard, an addon sees the most. Away from the PC, an app on Blizzard's API such as VaultAlts is the only kind that shows every character with the game closed. For one character you do not own, the Armory and Raider.IO are free lookups with no login.
Is Blizzard's Armory an alt manager?
No. It shows one character per page with PvE and PvP records, has no roster list and no Great Vault view. It is the official record for a single character, not a way to manage several.
Do alt management apps need my Battle.net password?
VaultAlts does not: you log in on Blizzard's own page and the app receives a read only token, revocable at any time under Connections at account.battle.net. Treat any tool that asks for the password itself as a reason to walk away.
Can these tools manage Classic characters?
VaultAlts cannot; it reads the retail profile API only. Some addons have Classic builds, which depends on the addon. Other apps' listings do not say whether they read Classic realms.
