Great Vault addon alternatives

The alternatives to a Great Vault addon are the game's own vault window (in the Adventure Guide or in Silvermoon), a spreadsheet you keep by hand, and apps or websites that read Blizzard's API. Only the last group works while the game is closed and shows every character at once; VaultAlts is one of them, free on iOS, Android and the web.
None of them replaces the moment of claiming: the item itself is still picked in game. What they replace is the logging in and out to find out where each alt stands.

You do not need an addon to open the vault window
The default interface already shows the three rows for the character you are on. The window opens from the Mythic+ Dungeons tab or the Journeys tab of the Adventure Guide, from the vault's icon on the world map, or by standing at the vault itself in Silvermoon City's bank. It also opens anywhere with this macro:

What an addon adds on top is convenience for one character at the keyboard. What it cannot add is the other five alts, or the bus ride home.
What an API app rebuilds, and what it cannot
- Rebuilt from the API: raid bosses killed (from the character's encounter data), dungeons completed this week (from the keystone profile, one per dungeon), and the world row (estimated from the weekly quests the API reports as completed).
- Not in the API, so not in any app: the items the vault offers. The only place to see the actual choices is the window in game.
- Not in VaultAlts: Classic, Hardcore and Anniversary characters. It reads the retail profile API only.

Do I need an addon to see Great Vault progress?
No. The default interface shows the three rows for the character you are logged into: open the Adventure Guide's Mythic+ Dungeons or Journeys tab, right click the vault icon on the world map, or use the vault in Silvermoon City's bank. An addon adds convenience at the keyboard, not new data.
Can an app replace a Great Vault addon?

Only the game. Blizzard's API does not publish the vault's reward choices, so no website or app can show them; they show how many slots are unlocked and what the next one needs.
Does Blizzard's Armory show the Great Vault?
No. The Armory shows one character per page with PvE and PvP records, and has no vault view.
