The best way to track multiple WoW characters is a single list that rebuilds itself from Blizzard's API after every session, so nothing is typed and nothing goes stale: vault slots, keys and raid kills per alt, with the reset countdown for your region. A spreadsheet works until the third alt; an addon works until you log off.

The spreadsheet's failure is human and the addon's is structural: neither can tell you, on the bus, that Alt C is one dungeon from a slot. That is exactly the number an API app rebuilds, and the columns it fills are listed on the WoW alt tracker page.
A setup that takes one login
- Install VaultAlts from the App Store or Google Play, or open vaultalts.com and sign in.
- Tap Login with Blizzard. You log in on Blizzard's own page; the app receives a read only token for the characters on your account and never sees your password.
- The roster appears, every character in your region on any realm, and syncs again whenever you open the app and a character's data is more than an hour old.
- Turn on the reset reminders, 24 hours and 6 hours before your region's reset, so the alt with the cheapest slot left is named before it is too late.

What the list cannot include
Every API app reads the same Profile API, so none can show the items inside the vault, gold, bags, bank or the Auction House. VaultAlts shows retail characters in one Battle.net region, estimates the vault's world row from weekly quests and counts dungeons once each from best runs. Frequently asked questions
Is a spreadsheet good enough for tracking WoW alts?
It works as long as you type every number after every session. The first skipped session makes it wrong, and it cannot tell you anything the game has not already told you. An app on Blizzard's API rebuilds the same list without typing.
Is there an official Blizzard tool for tracking several characters?
Not one that shows a roster. The Armory website shows one character per page and has no vault view, and Blizzard retired the WoW Companion App on July 23, 2024. Tracking several characters at once is done by fan made apps and websites that read Blizzard's API.
Can I track characters in two Battle.net regions?
Not in one VaultAlts account: it connects one Battle.net region and lists every character in it, on any realm. Characters in another region are not included.
Do I need an addon to track multiple characters?
No. An addon only knows the characters you have logged into and only works while the game runs. An API app lists every character on the account with nothing installed in the game.
