What is NOT in WoW Forever: no flying, no level scaling, level 60 cap, optional transmog

Updated on Published By VaultAlts

World of Warcraft: Forever has no flying mounts, no level scaling, and a level cap of 60. Transmog exists but is optional and can be disabled entirely. There is no realm list (you pick a ruleset instead), GDKP runs are not allowed, the launch raids need no attunement, and no raid opens before December 9, 2026. Hardcore arrives after launch.

No flying mounts

Blizzard lists no flying mounts as a direct consequence of the game's pillars: the world is the main character, and the journey comes before the destination. Travel is on foot, on ground mounts, by flight path and by the three new ship routes.

The Skyborne come closest, with a racial called Walk on Air that lets them glide downward for 10 seconds, according to Icy Veins' beta data. That is a glide, not flight.

No level scaling

Zones, dungeons and raids do not scale to your level. Blizzard states there is no level scaling, and the developers told But Why Tho? that difficulty will always be the same, which means you can outgear or outlevel content. Zones keep fixed level bands, such as the Riverglades for the mid-30s to mid-40s.

The level cap stays at 60

Forever's journey runs from level 1 to 60, and Blizzard's roadmap language talks about adding quests throughout the level 1 to 60 journey rather than raising the cap. Wowhead describes 60 as a permanent max level. New content lands as zones, dungeons and raids, not as new level brackets.

Transmog is optional

Transmogrification is in the game, but it is designed for both camps. You can visit a transmogrifier in certain cities to configure outfits, or disable the system entirely, in which case you only ever see other players in their equipped gear. Choosing Classic Mode when you first launch the game disables transmog automatically.

Appearances are still collected while the system is off, in case you turn it on later. Bind-on-pickup Uncommon and Rare dungeon items grant their appearance to every eligible looter, so nobody needs to roll against an upgrade just to collect a look; epic raid drops grant the appearance only to the player the item binds to. Low-level characters cannot use high-level appearances until level 60.

No realm list, no cross-ruleset or cross-faction play

Forever is realmless. Instead of picking a server you pick a ruleset: Normal (PvP needs mutual consent), PvP, Roleplaying, or Hardcore once it opens after launch. Each ruleset is one large ecosystem rather than one giant realm, and you can group, run dungeons and raid with anyone on the same ruleset.

Cross-ruleset grouping is not supported, and factions remain separate, so Horde and Alliance still cannot group together. Collections and Legacy Points are account-wide across rulesets, with Hardcore as the exception: progress flows out of Hardcore when a character dies and transfers, but never into it.

No GDKP, and a crackdown on gold buying

In the live Q&A after BlizzCon, Blizzard confirmed that GDKP runs will not be allowed in Forever, according to Wowhead's report. The reasons given were that GDKP tends to overtake the guild structure, prices out players with fewer resources and is closely tied to real-money trading.

Blizzard also said it has been too lenient on gold buyers in the past and plans to crack down aggressively in Forever, while watching the economy to make sure players can afford to play.

No attunements for the launch raids, no flexible raid sizes

The raids that open on December 9, 2026 will not require attunement, the developers told But Why Tho? in an interview summarised by Wowhead. They declined to say whether later raids will. Raids use fixed sizes of 10, 20 and 40 players rather than flexible sizes, and encounters are meant to feel like Classic rather than start with complex mechanics.

No raids and no Hardcore at launch

Launch day on November 4, 2026 brings the leveling game: four new regions, nine dungeons and the Darkspear Islands battleground. The first raids, Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit, open on December 9, 2026. Hardcore is listed by Blizzard as available after launch; Wowhead and Icy Veins place it in winter 2026. The roadmap guide has every date.

No separate purchase, but the Skyborne are paid

The game itself costs nothing beyond a WoW subscription or Game Time. The one paid gameplay feature is the Skyborne race with its Zephras Isle starting zone, which requires the Skyborne Heroic Pack or higher. Everything else in the upgrade packs is cosmetic, beta access, Game Time or Invite-A-Friend codes. The release date guide lists the editions.

No beta carry over and no free trial

Nothing from the beta carries to the live game; Icy Veins states that all progress is wiped and everyone starts fresh on November 4. Icy Veins also notes that, like other Classic versions, Forever has no free trial or starter edition. The exception is launch week, when Invite-A-Friend codes let a friend play from November 4 to 11 without a subscription.

Not a season, not a Classic re-release

Blizzard says Forever is not a mode, a season, or a new version of Classic, but a permanent third home alongside modern WoW and WoW Classic. It will not end the way Season of Discovery did, and it is not a fresh Classic Era realm. What is WoW Forever explains what it is instead.
